Occupational Gender Stereotypes in Indonesian Secondary School English Language Textbooks

This discourse study seeks to examine occupational gender stereotypes in two textbooks of secondary English language published Indonesia. Occupational textbooks, entitled When Rings a Bell, for grade 7 and 8 were analyzed with the help Kress van Leeuwen (2006) framework. The findings indicate that both encompass content on stereotypes, particularly occupation. also revealed there far less photos women public domain than men, indicating conventional roles such as cooking, cleaning, watering plants, caring children, performing all domestic activities more common. Furthermore, found male occupations common diverse female terms stereotypes. societal responsibilities, males demonstrated have wider choice vocations girls. Gender blindness among curriculum designers textbook authors is serious worry this regard, it must be addressed order improve awareness gender-related occupations. study's practical implications are teachers, authors, creators illustrators should fully aware interplay between language, visual depictions, concerns while constructing avoid unwanted insights into
